Air Chief Marshal Sir Angus Houston AK, AFC (Ret'd) Joins Painaustralia
We are delighted to announce Air Chief Marshal Sir Angus Houston AK, AFC (Ret’d) has accepted the role as national Patron of Painaustralia.
Sir Angus was awarded the Knight of the Order of Australia in January 2015 for extraordinary and pre-eminent achievement and merit in service to Australia through distinguished service in the Australian Defence Force (ADF), continued commitment to serve the nation in leadership roles, particularly the national responses to the MH370 and MH17 disasters, and in a variety of roles in the community.
Sir Angus retired from the military as Chief of the Australian Defence Force in July 2011 after serving for 41 years.
In April 2017 Sir Angus was appointed Chancellor for the University of the Sunshine Coast. In addition he Chairs several boards and also serves as a board member for numerous companies and is the Ambassador/Patron for a number of charitable organisations.
“Chronic pain is a common condition among veterans, especially those injured in conflict,” said Sir Angus.
“It can be associated with debilitating post-traumatic stress disorder or other mental health issues and being able to articulate these problems can be a barrier for people whose work has taught them to be stoic and self sufficient.
“I’m looking forward to helping raise awareness about chronic pain among our veterans and the Australian community.”
Painaustralia Chairman Robert Regan said of Sir Angus’ acceptance of the role of Patron:
“Sir Angus is an exceptional and distinguished Australian with a deep commitment to the Australian community. We are both humbled and honoured to be working with him.
“Sir Angus’ appointment is a significant step in continuing to enhance the capability of Painaustralia and comes at a time of increasing awareness of the urgent need to address the issue of chronic pain and reduce the burden of pain on individuals and the community.”
