Queensland Pain Management Meeting
Painaustralia was pleased to participate in the Queensland Statewide Persistent Pain Management Clinical Network’s planning day held in Brisbane in early March. The day was intended to outline a statewide response to the National Action Plan.
The two-pronged aim of the day was to:
- Present and consult with key stakeholders on the initial findings of the ‘Pain is Everybody’s Business’ Project, a Network project endorsed by Clinical Excellence Queensland; it’s primary purpose is to quantify gaps in patient access and utilisation across the state
- Focus stakeholders into key areas for development of services, paediatric persistent pain and management of appropriate opiate prescribing, as well as vulnerable populations such as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, rural and remote, and the elderly.
Painaustralia CEO Carol Bennett spoke to the National Strategic Action Plan for Pain Management highlighting the benefits and challenges of the key approaches and recommendations.
Other presentations included those by the NSW Agency for Clinical Innovation’s Jenni Johnson, Dr Mark Alcock, a paediatric pain specialist and Emma, a consumer living with pelvic pain who provided her powerful personal story.
